Destiny

Destiny

Destiny (2008) QH colt. Destiny has a right pastern issue. This was an injury he sustained at a month old and was never treated by the former owners. He was turned over to another rescue that had to disperse its herd. He and his friend Marigold (1973) arrived in February 2009 from Washington state. Rob and our vet are working together with a special shoe for his injured leg to correct his condition as much as possible.

You can watch how things go for Destiny on the MHR blog.

Update July 8, 2009

Destiny did arrive with an injury that he sustained at a month old.  He was saved by another rescue at what age I am not sure.  He was taken to WSU in order to evaluate what could be done for him.  At that time, surgery may have been an option for him but there were no guarantees that it would be successful, and it stated in the report once inside, if it did not look like it could be repaired he would be humanely put down while still under.

This report was provided to Dr. Hadland, DVM and he and Robert Pierce (farrier) wanted to give him a chance.  So together they designed a special shoe in order to change the bone formation. (video on this thread)  Unfortunately, things were progressing to slow which was causing issues with his good leg and foot.  He is in pain now and has been medicated daily so that we could make arrangements for his passing.  Dr. Hadland wanted to be the one that gives him his wings as he has tried very hard for him.  Please watch this video as Dr. Hadland explains:

It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Destiny will be crossing the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow.  We are very sorry we could not do more for him.

Update July 9, 2009

Hello All,

Today has been a very difficult time.  Destiny received his wings.  Destiny was ready per Dr. Hadland, it was very peaceful.  I hugged him and I did whisper in his ear all your love to him.  At the moment of his passing a slight wind came up, and in my mind it was Destiny running to heaven, not limping but running.  I pictured his head held high, his tail flagging behind him and a strong whinney being sounded throughout the heavens.

RIPDestiny

My dear human friends,
A door called death has closed between us for the moment.
But could a little thing like that
break the bond of love and understanding between us,
Who have been so close? Of course not.

Having left behind the body which no longer serves me
and gave me pain, now I can be with all of you always and everywhere;
On long delicious walks, at quiet times, and lively times,
Alone, among friends new and old.

Let my excitement with life still brighten your days.
As long as there is a place in your heart which is the shape of me,
I will be with you.
One day you too will come through the door,
And we will be together in glorious ways we have yet to understand.

MaryL
