Acey, an Appaloosa mare, arrived at Miracle Horse Resce on December 21, 2001. We were told that she was 22 years old. Her situation appears to be a common one. The previous owner had no desire to care for her any longer and that was apparent by the condition of her feet. However, he was not the one who delivered her to us. The daughter of his friend said that if he no longer wanted her she would take her to Miracle Horse Rescue. She found out about Miracle through a veterinarian in Las Vegas. The previous owner signed her over to this young woman and said take her. There is one catch though with Acey, she had a partner.....a little 5 year old Pygmy goat named Sassy. Wherever Acey went Sassy followed. Acey would not stand still to have her feet trimmed unless she could see her Sassy. They even talked to one another. It was very sweet.
As time passed, we came to learn that Acey was not 22 years old when she arrived, she was 31! She has also lost her eye sight and, unfortunately, her little friend Sassy has also passed on.
She established a friendship with another one of our horses, Susie, and Susie crossed the bridge in May of 2007.
But Acey continues and is doing well. She's experienced a lot since she was foaled in 1968!
