Grace
According to the veterinarian, Grace is between 5 and 8 yrs old as of January 2007 when she came to MHR. She arrived with an injury she had sustained to her left hind leg in September 2006 that had not received any medical treatment. She had a large mass of proud flesh on this injury that was continuing to rupture. On January 12th, we were prepared to have the surgery performed for removal of the proud flesh, but.our veterinarian decided to take a less invasive measure, as he had concerns that nerves and tendons would be involved and he did not want to risk her being lame the rest of her life.
Well, it worked. Grace will always have a scar and this particular leg. The leg is not real pretty but she is not lame, and can run like the wind with no adverse affects. She loves people and can be ridden by an experienced rider. She can be bossy with other horses. She does not like to be bathed, but likes to be groomed. She will give her feet to be trimmed but is very sensitive with her hind feet. The farrier needs to be patient with her. She roundpens, loads and ties.
Here's a video of Grace. A second video (July 1, 2007). Grace was sponsored by LindaNV until she found a permanent home.
Grace was adopted in April of 2008! |

Casper is a friendly 3 1/2 year old gelding. He has been started and has had four rides, additional training will be needed. He is green broke. Casper is healthy and has no disabilities.
Here's a video of Casper on the football field with some of his teammates.
Casper was adopted by a wonderful family in April 2008! |
 |
Dancer is a 4 year old Missouri Fox Trotter Iborn 2004). He leads, baths and trailers well. He is good with his feet. He is healthy and has a wonderful personality. He has not been started under saddle so he does require professional training. Dancer will make a wonderful horse for someone who wants to give him the opportunity to be all that he can be.
Dancer DID NOT come to MHR due to horrible circumstances. Dancer came to MHR due to caring owners, an elderly couple in failing health who knew that they could not provide him with the life he needed but they did not want to sell him and never know what happened to him. Since Dancer has been here they have visited with him and they hope that he will get his "FOREVER" home.
The family who adopted Casper decided they needed to have Dancer, so they adopted him too! |

Jalopy
Jalopy is a 15 y/o Arabian gelding. Jalopy is somewhat of a celebrity as he was one of the horses that participated in the production of "The Tournament of Kings" at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In December of 2003, Jalopy bowed a tendon while he walked from the barn to the show arena as it is our understanding from information provided he slipped. They contacted the veterinanrian for immediate care and remained under this care for over six months. He was then re-evaluated to see if he could continue with the production, unfortunately he was unable to continue this type of work. He was then placed up for sale and was bought by an individual. This individual contacted Miracle Horse Rescue and asked if we would take him. Jalopy was quite thin when we picked him up and upon advisement from our veterinarian he was placed on a special diet to regain his weight.
Jalopy still requires more weight, but if the individual who adopts him continues the special diet he will gain his weight back. As our veterinarian stated, this is a slow process and this is what it will take.
Jalopy is a "In Your Face" type of horse. Very curious, wants to see what your doing constantly and can get in the way. We were informed that he can be mouthy if you allow him to be, this is not tolerated here and should not be by the special person who adopts this special boy.
Jalopy has excellent training and would require a strong intermidiate to experienced rider. He requires Sports Medicine Wraps/Boots when being ridden
Danny Tyra and Ginger Stumne have adopted Excalibur AKA Jalopy. They believed that he came into their lives for a reason. Danny and Ginger feel they can give the love and care he so justly deserves.
So does Miracle Horse Rescue.
Congratulations to all three of them! |

Molly
Molly came to Miracle starved. She was approximately 450 lbs under weight. She still needs about another 150lbs.
She does not have a great deal of trust with humans, but then again why should she?
Molly is getting better though. She is between 12 and 14 years old, we could not be told exactly.
She is a TB Cross. She can be ridden but is standoffish.
She has not been ridden at this time here at Miracle as putting her back into shape has been the primary goal. She has had problems with eye infections, but with medication it has been kept under control (Teramyician). She must wear a fly mask.

Shania
Shania Shania, better known as Miracles little diva.
She is 10 years old, broke to ride and very sweet. Shania is a whole 10 hands high but thinks she is bigger.
She is looking for a forever home.
|
 |
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a 7 year old Quarter Horse mare. She is foundation bred and is on the small side (14.3 hands high) but is an excellent horse for an itermediate to advanced rider.
|
 |
Spicy Velvet
Spicy is a very athletic 21 yr old, who is a former High School Barrel Racer and Pole Bender. Spicy's biggest problem is she does not know what the word slow down and whoa means.
She is cinchy, but we think with patience and time, she could make an experienced rider a very nice horse.

Simba
Simba arrived at Miracle Horse Rescue, October 3rd, 2004. He is a beautiful 9 year old, healthy TB gelding. Simba is not broke to ride, he has had very little ground manners taught to him, but he is managable. Now some individuals would look at this and say, 9 years old and he does not know anything. Well, we look at it a bit differently. Simba is a piece of clay that can be molded and sculpted with lots of love and proper training. He will make someone an excellent horse as he does not have bad habits and with the proper training could make someone a very special horse. There is very little history on Simba as his former owner is deceased.

Crackerjack
Crackerjack arrived 3/8/2003. He is an 11 year-old- Jack. He came to Miracle Horse Rescue because his last family could no longer keep him. We were informed that Crackerjack does have some issues. He brays a great deal and doesn’t care what time of the day or night. However, this has subsided considerably as he continues to settle in to his new environment. Crackerjack does nip and if he cannot get you then he will nip himself. We were told that he has been trained to drive and that he can be ridden but we have not seen either of these thing done. We spoke to our veterinarian and he said the first thing that someone should do should they adopt him is to have him gelded, this could aide in his issues. It seems when any of the Miracle Horses or Burros does something comical you never have the camera available. The one thing that Crackerjack does do, is that when he rolls and then gets up, he actually sits on his bottom like a dog with his front legs extended in front of him and just sits and looks around. It is the funniest thing to see.

Nikki
Nikki arrived October 3rd, 2004. She is a sweet, 10 year old healthy TB mare. Nikki has never been trained to be ridden. She has a tendency to be a bit shy as she has she has not had a great deal of handling in her life. She needs to be started just as you would a young colt or filly. There is not much information regarding her history as her former owner is deceased, and individuals that know her cannot recall her receiving much attention. Nikki needs a family who is willing to love her and have her properly trained. |
 |
President
Southern President is a 22 year old Missouri Fox Trotter. Due to President having ring bone, he can be adopted as a companion horse or as a pet only. |
 |
Neat & Nices IMA FOX FIRE TOO
Fire is a 3 year old registered miniature stallion. Fire has an under bite a characteristic that you do not want passed on to other babies. Gelding should be a priority to whomever adopts him. Fire would make a nice pet and cart horse.
|
 |
Bo's Honeysuckle Rose
Bo is a 19 year old Missori Fox Trotter who came to us with a right shoulder injury. She needed stall rest. She was with us for 12 months, became sound and was adopted. |
 |
Rivasato
Rivasato is a 19 year old Peruvian Paso gelding. He arrived at Miracle Horse Rescue on February 2nd. Rivasato was very well taken care of, but due to unforeseen circumstances in his previous owners life, they felt it was best that he came here so that Miracle Horse Rescue could find him a new home. We have been informed that Rivasato is a bit shy and will need an individual who can spend one on one quality time with him. He can be ridden, and we understand that he moves beautifully. Rivasato needs a person that enjoys leisurely riding two to three times per week.

Sunny
Sunny has been adopted by Mike and Julie Warden. Sunny, now called Sunshine, is a very lucky horse. His new owners have many years of horse experience both in riding and handling. They had the opportunity to work him on the ground as well as ride him.
Sunshine will belong to Julie as she told me he is the horse of her dreams. Julie and Mike have a beautiful set up for horses and he will be joining two other horses in the Warden household.

 |
His Highness aka Twister
Twister was adopted by a very nice couple, who just wanted to retire him for the rest of his life. Now he is turned out, groomed and given plenty of carrots, after what he has done for man what a better way than to just be loved and pampered for your twilight years. |
 |
Miss Chris
Miss Chris arrived 3/9/02.
She came to us due to unfortunate circumstances within her previous owner's life. She is approximately 34 years old, but she could have fooled us. She is very high spirited and full of life.
Prior to her coming she was ridden which is what she likes to do. She requires an experienced rider. She does not use a bit, she has been ridden all of her life with a hackamore. Also during cold weather she must be blanketed because she does not grow a thick coat. We were informed that when Miss Chris was younger she was used in endurance events. She can be ridden both western and english. |

Target
Gwen and Eddie Woods moved to Pahrump with a mutual dream in mind. They wanted to have a small ranch where they could have horses and any other little barn yard animals they could imagine having. They began scouring the valley for just the right animals to fit their needs and to give them a caring home.
Gwen and Eddie's first purchase was Half Moon, a young Mustang gelding. His personality was what caught their eye as he was very animated and had a zest for everything he did. He brought many hours of pleasure to Gwen and Eddie. But as we all know, one horse is just not enough. So the adventure begins once again for another horse. But it had to be just the right horse, because Eddie and their children were getting this one for Gwen as a birthday gift. They came across a ranch that had a sign up that said "Horses For Sale". As they pull in Gwen, spots this young horse standing there looking forelorn, she had basically made up her mind that he was the one she had to have. They asked what horses were available and much to Gwen's surprise the one she wanted was.
Enter... Target. Eddie purchased him for Gwen. She was now the proud owner of a 6 month old paint colt. Target was very unique and he was not quite trusting of humans. Gwen spent many hours with Target earning his trust. It is amazing what time and patience will accomplish. One evening Eddie had gone out to feed and he noticed after he had placed Target's food in his feeder he would not touch it. With concern he went to Gwen and told her Target won't eat, what do you think is wrong? Gwen smiled at Eddie and said "He's waiting for his kiss", you see Gwen gave Target a kiss when she fed him so that was what he expected from everyone. Gwen and Eddie's enthusiam for horses rubbed off onto one of Gwen's friends and once again the search was on for just the right horse.
They went back to the same ranch and that is where Bako was found. She is a 27 year old Morgan mare who is very gentle. Bako stayed with Gwen and Eddie and life was wonderful for all.
As we go through life we never expect tragedy to strike. In February 2001, Eddie was killed in an automobile accident. Thus Gwen's life destroyed having lost the one person she deeply loved and shared dreams with. Gwen did her very best to keep those dreams alive. Though we all know sometimes this is difficult for just one person to carry upon their shoulders. Miracle Horse Rescue received an email from Gwen explaining her situtation and that she was seeking help. We went and picked up all three horses on July 6th. They have settled in and seem to have adjusted to their new surroundings. Our hats off to Gwen for being a responsible horse owner and knowing she had to make a decision that was difficult for her as these horses represented a part of her life with Eddie.
Miracle Horse Rescue, Inc. dedicates this story to the memory of Eddie Woods, who had a zest for life just as his horse Half Moon. So when you look in the dark night sky and see a half moon, think of Eddie Woods and the dreams he had.

Lady
On September 9, 2001 upon our return from picking Rosie and Giddy up much to our surprise stood this very poor looking mare in our turn out. We could not believe our eyes. There was no note, nothing to let us know who she had belonged to and we didn't have a name for her.
As we all stood, still in shock watching this poor girl, she came up to fence and nickered at us. She had the kindest eyes and not only the obvious that she was craving food but that she wanted attention. Slipping into the gate not sure what she was going to do, we walked up to her. She stood there watching us, allowing strange hands to touch and examine her. We decided at that moment we would call her "Lady" as her personality denoted that of a perfect lady. Now the big question was who had she belonged to? With some investigation we managed to locate the owner, I contacted him and he told me in no uncertain terms " I can't keep weight on her and I don't want her so you can have her". I explained to him that he could not just drop her off that he needed to meet with us and the Nevada State Brand Inspector. He agreed, and now Lady has joined the Miracle Horse group.
Upon careful examination of Lady, we found that her teeth had been ground down to little nubs from her cribbing. She was having difficulty eating. We have since her arrival placed her on an alfalfa mash, and vitamins to bring her back up to her ideal weight. She is approximately 250 to 300 lbs under. It is going to take time and alot of care. She is a very sweet mare. She is approximately 18 years old and with more extensive research we found out that she is a wonderful riding horse. The only thing Lady or Lady Bug as she has been dubbed doesn't care for is the cribbing basket we have placed on her. It is removed at feeding time, but replaced afterwards, hopefully this will help in her rehabilitation. We believe that eventually Lady Bug will make a very special person a very special horse.

Jeep
We would like you to meet "JEEP", he arrived at the Miracle Horse Facility on March 24th, 2001.
He is a 13 year old Registered Thoroughbred Gelding. He was utilized as a Hunter/Jumper, he is beautiful and a gentleman. However, Jeep suffers from Navicular Disease which is an inflammation of the small navicular bone and bursa inside the hoof between the coffin bone and the tendon that flexes or bends back the coffin joint.
Go to http://www.equus.com/webnavicular.htm for more details.
Jeep does not appear to be in pain nor does he have any problems stepping out. He does require specials shoes to illeviate any discomfort he may have.
All veterinarian records are on file. |

Giddy
Giddy has a wonderful home in Sandy Valley, Nevada. She is the companion for Molasses the Mule. From the first time they met a bond developed between them. When Colt and Donna Goodman wanted to adopt Giddy, their sole purpose was to locate the perfect friend for their mule, and they did. Giddy and Molasses, along with Donna and Colt go out for a walk every Sunday. Life for Giddy couldn't get much better than this. Even the neighbors bring treats over to them. It is such a pleasure to have a Miracle horse go to such a good home. We know that she is well cared for and we do miss her. But Molasses needed her also. |

Rosie
Hi There! My name is Rosie, I am a 10 year old Quarter Horse. I was picked up by Miracle Horse Rescue on September 9th, 2001. I came from a very good home, it's just due to some changes in my other families life and my feet that I could not remain with them.
I was living with Kevin and Pam Binns up on Mount Potisi. They own Sonet Stables which does trail rides throughout the mountains. Kevin had bought me as a gift for Pam, they did not know my feet were not in the best shape. That did not make a difference to Pam, she loved me just the same. You see though I am only ten years old, and I foundered sometime when I was younger. I am doing better though, it's just going to take some time and patience. My new farrier came and looked at me shortly after I arrived and said I wasn't that bad and with time we could correct the problem. Which brings me to Miracle Horse Rescue.
Pam said before she got too old or no longer with us her dream was to ride across the United States as our ancestors did. They are leaving March 1, 2002 traveling from our great state of Nevada to our nations captial Washington D.C. Pam however wanted to add more meaning to her ride, so guess what she is going to do??? She is going to ride for Miracle Horse Rescue. She believes that my new home needs to be recognized for all they do and that they need the support of the public. She said if it weren't for them, she would not know what would have happened to me. I can't make the trip because of my feet, but she knows that I am safe and will be loved and cared for by the people at Miracle Horse Rescue.
All of us commend Pam and Kevin Binns for the trek which they will be undertaking. We also, want to Thank them for believing in Miracle Horse Rescue and for wanting to support us in our efforts to help those horses in need. Should you desire to help Miracle Horse Rescue in it's continued efforts for the preservation and welfare of abused, neglected and unwanted horses of all types and conditions please call 775-751-1101 or email us at rescue@miraclehorse.com. Also, Pam and Kevin Binns Miracle Ride needs your support. If you would like additional information regarding their ride, please contact Sonet Stables @ 1-800-370-8180. Additionally, Pam and Kevin have stated for every two hour trail ride they conduct, they will donate $5.00 to Miracle Horse Rescue.. We hope that you will consider providing a Miracle to these very Special Horses.

Lady Grey
Lady Grey arrived Sunday, December 2nd, 2001. She is a 22 year old, 14 hand high mare. She is very healthy....but she is totally blind. She belonged to the same family for the past 12 years. Four years ago she went blind in one eye. She went totally blind two years ago. She is very quiet and appears to be adjusting to her new surroundings. I am sure she would make a wonderful companion horse and what would be better still is to locate a very special person for her, who would love her just as she is. We were informed by the former owners that should a person earn her trust, they could become her eyes and could still be rode.

Frack
Frack an 18 year old Arabian Gelding virtually starved and neglected. He was surrendered on 11/4/2001 and the sickening part of all this, is he came from the same individuals who surrendered Gizmo to us seven months ago. His feet were long due to lack of trimming, he had horse bites all over his body that were left untreated and several have become infected. This horse with his soft brown eyes should despise human beings and all that we represent, but he is just the opposite. He is gentle, and while tending to his wounds he stood patiently as if he knew he was being helped. He is receiving several small meals throughout the course of the day and with each meal even with his head in the feed barrel he is talking to us, almost as if to say Thank You. He now is housed in a clean pen, by himself where he does not have to worry about being beat up by another stronger horse. He receives his food and has clean fresh water. He appears to be adjusting well to his new surroundings and has even began talking with his other barn buddies. We will do everything we can for Frack, but it will be up to him to accomplish the fight to survive. His rehabilitation is going to be a long road, but once he comes back into himself he is going to make someone a wonderful, wonderful horse. We will continue to post updates on Frack's progress as he even takes the baby steps back to recuperating.

Oberon
Hello, my name is Oberon, I am a 13 year old TB. I stand 17 hands and I'm really a sweet, gentle and kind horse. I use to belong to a very nice young woman who used me in the equestrian/dressage world. I was given to her because my former owner just didn't want me. I went through some very extensive training to help me compete with others. You must understand that I wasn't used to this, because I used to be a trail horse in Red Rock Canyon, just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Boy, if that schooling stuff wasn't a challenge...let me tell ya!
But, I did it!! My young woman and I had a wonderful year we even won in some of our classes. We started having some problems though, NO I should say I HAD the problems. You see I was injured a few years ago, but no one knew this and I couldn't speak so I had to show them. My young woman and her trainer were very concerned and took me to the best veterinarians and they said I had a bone chip in my right leg. I saw the tears well up into my owners eyes. She knew that our competitive days were over. To top it all off I was her very first horse. Isn't that something, you find someone who puts everything they have into you and then something happens that you cannot fulfill their desires. Darn! I really wish I could have. My young woman contacted Miracle Horse Rescue and explained my situation. She asked if they would take me. They said YES! I arrived not knowing what to expect. As I stepped off the trailer, and looked at my surroundings, I spotted my new Mom and Dad. They were smiling and greeting everyone including me. They had my young woman take me to my stall. Boy you should have seen everyone staring at me and talking. I was pretty popular with the others. My new Mom and Dad assured my young woman that I would be taken care of and loved. My new Mom and Dad walked away leaving me alone with my young woman. She whispered kind words to me, rubbed my neck, fed me carrots and told me that she loved me and that I was the best. Her tears touched my nose, and I tried in my own way to let her know that I would never forget her kindness and all that she had done for me. I haven't forgot her!
Well I have been here a little over a month. Life is great. I have had some problems, but my mom and grandparents have spent time rubbing my leg down with cool water and making every attempt to keep the swelling down and it works. I haven't told my mom I just like her rubbing my leg....shhhh it really doesn't hurt I just like the rub downs. I do make things interesting for them though. My mom and grandma washed me down the other day, and tied me up to dry before they would brush me out. They went back to the barn, but hey it's lonely out there so guess what I did? I chewed through my lead rope and walked back to the barn, all by myself. Clever don't ya think? They were a bit surprised, but I walked up to them and they were laughing. They put me in my pen. Though they brushed me out, I had to add the finishing touch. A good roll. I felt wonderful!
My new family takes very good care of me and all of the other Miracle Horse's. They are out here all the time, cleaning, feeding, grooming you name it they do it. Though the monetary aspect of donations is great as it feeds all of us, but they enjoy having volunteers who give of their time. If you can give in either manner they will be ever so grateful.

Ginger
Ginger arrived on November 23rd, 2002. She is a 22 year old registered Quarter Horse. Her owner recently passed away. Ginger is Hope's dam. The information that has been provided to Miracle Horse Rescue is as follows: Ginger is "BOMB" proof, anyone can ride her. In the last couple of days of observation, she has displayed nothing but a sweet disposition. She is down on her weight presently, but we can fix that. She had her feet done on the 24th and was a perfect lady. Ginger stands approximately 14.2 hands. Ginger is going to need a very special family, who will care and love her...she deserves this and nothing less. If you are interested in Ginger, please do not hesitate to contact or visit Miracle Horse Rescue.

Marcus
Marcus is a registered TB, registered name is Lively Gallant. He is 30 years old, but he is as spunky as a 10 year old. He has mild arthritis in his front left leg. Marcus came to us due to unfortunate circumstances within his previous owners life. He is healthy. Marcus requires an experienced rider he likes to hop around and rear occassionally. But that doesn't make him all bad. He has been ridden english at a high dressage level. He can also be ridden western. According to his former owner he enjoys going out on the trails |

Hope
Hope is a 7 year old Quarter Horse Mare. She arrived at Miracle Horse Rescue on Saturday the 23rd of November. Her owner recently passed away. This little mare is a sweetheart. The information that has been provided to Miracle is as follows. Hope has had some training in her life. She can be saddled up but she knows nothing. On the ground you can do just about anything with her. She had her feet trimmed on the 24th and she stood there and gave no problems. Hope stands approximately 14.2 hands. She was born to registered parents, but documentation was never submitted to AQHA. From what we understand she still can be registered but it will be quite costly. If you are seeking a sweet little horse and you don't care about papers then HOPE is here for you. She will not be available for adoption until the 26th of December. Hope is going to need a gentle hand and a person whom will dedicate themselves to her, guide her and train her as she appears to be the type of horse with the right handling will give 200 percent of herself.
Her adoption fee will be $500.00 until January 1, 2003, it then will go to $600.00 due to the increase of feed prices and veterinarian care.
Thank You Terri and Betsy for contacting Miracle Horse Rescue for Hope and Ginger's previous owners family during their time of grief and thank you for transporting the girls to us.

Stormy
Meet Stormy and Alicia. Stormy is a 4 year old breed stock Paint gelding. Stormy was adopted by the Jordan family. He just recently returned from the trainers after three months. Alicia, and her mom Sharon traveled to Las Vegas five times per week in order for Alicia to work with Stormy and the trainer. This was all very well worth the time and effort that it took on everyone's part. Stormy has proven to be an eager learner as well as wanting to please. However, Stormy was not the only one who learned a great deal. Alicia also worked very hard during this time frame. She had quite an education. Alicia is a natural with horses, she has displayed this on countless occassions while volunteering at Miracle. Stormy is very lucky that the Jordan family has come into his life, but they will tell you that they are the lucky one's because they have a wonderful horse in Stormy. Keep a watch for Stormy and Alicia at future horse shows and speed events, I think they are going to go quite far together.

CJ
Miracle Horse Rescue introduces Cactus Juice aka CJ.
CJ is a 10 yr-old Registered Tennesse Walker.
The following information was provided to Miracle Horse Rescue by his former owner.
CJ is a very sweet horse with a stumbling problem. We were informed that he will drop to his knees while you are riding him. This can occur at anytime and he has gone down while in his stall. He requires an experienced rider and handler due to this problem.
Since CJ has been with us for approximately thirty days now, we have yet to see this occur, but that does not mean it won't happen. We did have individuals ride him and what we did observe is CJ does not pick up his feet while in motion, he just lumbers along dragging his toes as if he is in no hurry to get anywhere.
Once again, Miracle Horse Rescue only provides information that has been disclosed by previous owners and through our personal observations and experiences with the horse. We cannot say that he is not a stumbler but we have not seen it at this point and time. Should we have the opportunity to visually see this problem, then CJ will have an update added to his page.

In early March, we were contacted by "Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary" in Ravenna, Ohio. The reason for the contact was they asked if we would be interested in assisting them with a very special horse with a medical problem. They explained that this particular horse has COPD (Heaves) basically something similar to asthma.
Happy Trails veterinarian explained that they had two choices, either put him down or find him a dry climate to live. Now how much drier can we get, besides Death Valley which is only 56 miles to the west of us. We explained that we would be happy to take Cowboy, but that we did not have the financial means to have him transported to our facility. Happy Trails Sanctuary said they would take care of the hauling arrangments.
The plan was in the making to get him to Nevada. Through numerous emails, telephone calls and unforseen circumstances, Cowboy finally departed Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary on Friday, May 3rd at 7am. It was a bittersweet departure for the staff at Happy Trails, but they knew that what they were doing was the best for Cowboy.
The haulers, Bob and Lana Dailey of "The Get-Go Farm" were the ones who were bringing our very Special Delivery to Miracle Horse Rescue. Bob and Lana were in constant contact with Happy Trails and as they got closer to Miracle they kept us informed of their progress and Cowboy's condition. It seems that during their journey, Cowboy fell in love with a beautiful Thoroughbred mare, who was being transported to California. On the morning of May the 7th, I received a call from Lana telling us that they were in San Diego and were going to drop this mare off in Riverside. Seems, Cowboy thought this was his destination as he wanted to get off with her also. We knew that Bob and Lana were still several hours out, but Cowboy's pen was ready and waiting for him..... we were about as excited and impatient as a child at Christmas.
At 9:30pm, Lana called and said they had just arrived into Pahrump and needed directions to the ranch. The 15 minutes that we waited seemed like 15 hours. We heard the truck and trailer long before we saw it coming slowly down the dirt road. Just as it pulled up front we breathed a sigh of relief knowing he had made the 2,115 mile trip via Riverside, California and he was finally here. As we approached the trailer Cowboy was letting us know that he was in there and wanted out. The property was lit up like a Christmas tree so that he did not miss a thing. As soon as he came off the trailer he let out a very very loud whinney, letting his new friends know of his arrival. They all responded in kind to welcome him.
Cowboy is not only a beautiful 23 year old Quarter Horse but a very gentle and kind horse. We settled him in his pen, gave him his dinner and medication (which he requires daily) and he seemed very very content. There were a few nickers here and there from everyone.
It has been a few days now and Cowboy has been resting comfortably but that is to be expected after his long journey. We must continue to watch Cowboy very closely to ensure that his breathing does not become distressed.
Miracle Horse Rescue is very pleased to have been able to assist Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in their time of need.
Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary and Miracle Horse Rescue are both striving for the same thing. To give all creatures the opportunity to have the Miracle of a second chance of a good life without the worry of being starved, abused or neglected ever again! |

Buick
Buick is a 13 year old Quarter horse gelding. Buick's previous owners informed us that he has a right knee injury. We have taken him out on several trail rides, these rides consisted of flat ground riding at a walk and a bit of trotting for short distances. After these rides Buick showed no signs of lameness due to the knee but we cannot say that there will not be he any problems. There are no guarantees that his knee will not bother him. Buick is a real pleasure to ride and is a very personable horse. He has shown no bad habits whatsoever since he has been with us. There is one thing that he does not like and that is grocery bags. We have placed some of the bags tied to his panels in hopes that he will get over this issue. He seems to improving greatly, but once again there are no guarantees that they will not bother him in the future. |

Shelby is a wonderful horse, who during the last three months has been out on the trails. He did a very good job and seemed to enjoy it very much. Shelby is also no stranger to the show ring. He is well rounded. He requires an experienced rider. He loves attention. According to his adoptive mom, he NEVER displayed any bad behavior whatsoever. Shelby needs a home that will give him the attention he likes and deserves.

Soul Fire
Meet Soul Fire. Soul Fire is approximately 12-14 years old Arabian cross. There really was not much information provided on Fire. We had been told that he is broke to ride. What we do know, is that when he arrived October 28th, 2003 is that he was extremely under weight. This was due to the lack of being fed. We have yet to put a saddle on him nor ask a great deal from him as he is still very thin. He does have a sweet disposition from what we have observed. Savannah Jordan loves to visit with Fire. When she speaks to him or any of the other horses she has the softest, sweetest little voice that all the horses here seem to respond to. Savannah who spends three to four times a week volunteering, always has a pet and carrot for all the horses. |

Gypsy Bell Jinx
Gypsy returned to Miracle Horse Rescue on 11/20/2003. Gypsy had a wonderful home, however due to financial reasons Gypsy has come back.
Gypsy is a wonderful horse. She does require an experienced rider. One of her favorite things to do is run. She does get a bit nervous in trailers. She rides well, but she does sweat a great deal during her travels. She is a high strung horse which requires an individual who can handle her on the ground as well as on her back.

Lace

Charo
Charo is a 22 year old TB mare. She has been with us now for two weeks. When she arrived she was a great deal thinner, but is beginning to put her weight on. It does not take them long to lose it, but it seems a lot longer to put it back on. She does have a fungus on her rump area that we are presently treating and hopefully will clear up soon. Charo is fairly spirited but not aggressive. We are awaiting additional information as to her abilities. We do know there is a chance she has not been ridden in ten or fifteen years. Her previous owner had a stroke and it was left up to the children to decide where the horses would go. They had been told about Miracle through a Nevada Brand Inspector and made the call. All of this took a matter of two days to arrange. We are happy that we were able to assist this family in their time of need.
We will provide more information as we obtain it, and we will let you know of Charo's rehabilitation progress.

Miss Zim
Miss Zim is a beautiful, healthy 21 year old Paint Mare. Miss Zim came to us because her owner did not want to move her from the desert to the cold weather inwhich they are moving to. Miss Zim also came to us because her former owner wanted to ensure that she was adopted to a good home who will love and care for just as they had.
Miss Zim is a very easy keeper, loves her food. She is a bit skittish and requires a great deal of patience. She does not like anyone approaching her on her right side. This has been an issue with her since she was purchased at the age of 10 and has continued for the past 11 years with her former owner. Miss Zim can be ridden with a snaffle bit and must have a loose rein. She will drop her head and watches where she is going. On the trail she will watch what is around her. We were informed that she has never boogered but will be cautious of something she is not sure of. Miss Zim has never had a set of shoes on, her feet are extremely hard. She is a no nonsense kinda girl, get in do her feet and get out. She does not like to have her feet held onto for long periods of time. She will require a farrier with patience and and owner who will stand there while she is having her feet done, if tied to have feet done she will pull back in a panic and sit down.
Miss Zim DOES require an experienced owner/rider with patience and knowledge.

Fury
My name is Fury and I would like to tell you my story and how I came to Miracle Horse Rescue on November 19th, 2001. I was born 24 years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada to a wonderful family. When I arrived everyone was so very excited. As I looked up I saw a man, a woman and two children looking down on me. My children thought I was wonderful, the woman thought I was adorable but there seem to be a special something between the man and I. As the years went by I was taken care of very well by everyone in my family but especially my man. My kids grew up and they had different interests but I did see them but, my man was always there for me. I never had any type of formal training so I have never been ridden but I did make my family a wonderful pet. One year ago my man had a stroke leaving him unable to tend to my daily needs. So, my man's wife started taking care of me. I know that she was doing her very best for me but it was hard for her to take care of my man, her two granddaughters, and me. I really missed the one on one but I understood. But through all of this I still received the daily care I required. The saying "Things Happen For A Reason" really is true. On November 5th, my man's wife watched the special that George Knapp televised on Las Vegas Channel 8 about Miracle Horse Rescue and what they do for horses in need. Though it was very difficult for her she made the call to the people at Miracle. She explained her situation and they agreed to take me as soon as the State Brand Inspection could be arranged. On November 19th a truck rolled in pulling a large container something I never had seen before. I learned that it was a Horse Trailer. My man and his wife came out and alot of talking was going on but I couldn't hear a darn thing but, I knew it was about me. As I looked up a man that I have never seen before was walking towards me. He was carrying a halter and lead rope, I had not seen one of those in a long time. He was talking softly to me. I was very nervous at first but the man was patient and never pressured me. He waited for me to come to him. When I did, I noticed a lady opening the gate. It had been quite sometime since I had been out of my pen. As, we walked towards the horse trailer another woman walked up by the name of Kelly. I found out later that she was a friend of the man and woman from Miracle and wanted to be there to help. She walked me to the back of the trailer and we just stood there. Kelly, talked softly and reassured me that it was going to be okay. I looked over at my man and his wife and the both had tears in their eyes. They had given me such a good life with them and I think I gave them pleasure also. They were thinking of me, I knew this. The Miracle man walked up to me and said "Okay boy, lets do this for them" I knew then what had to be done. The Miracle man said "Up Boy" and that is just what I did. I jumped into that trailer like I had done it before, making my man and his wife very proud of me. As I looked out, I saw a tear sliding down my man's cheek, but he gave a thumbs up to the Miracle people. The trip was great, I had no problems at all. When we pulled through the gates of Miracle Horse Rescue, I heard a whole lot of noise, just like the noise I make. When i stepped out of the trailer I could not believe what I saw! There were a whole bunch more that looked just like me. How exciting!! Well, let me tell you what this is a good place to be. I have a stall between to of the finest looking little fillies I have ever layed my eyes on. Isn't Life Grand!!!!

Calico
Calico is a 19 year old Paint Mare. Calico has a tendency to come up sore in her right shoulder due to arthritis. She can be ridden once in awhile but it must be on flat ground, and at a walk. She does very well on joint supplements but this does not eliminate the problem. According to her former owner, she can come up sore even when she has not been ridden, but it is not an everyday occurrence.
Additionally, her former owner states that Calico rides with a Hackamore and you should be an experienced rider.

Dontcha Pass Me By aka Honey
Honey was foaled February 24, 2001. She is registered with the American Paint Horse Association as Breeding Stock.
Honey has a wonderful disposition, and is no stranger to bathing, clipping and loading, as she was shown in her earlier days.
According to her former owner, Honey also was trained for 8 months under saddle for Western Pleasure, however no one has been on her in two years. On June 17th, 2006 we placed a bareback pad on her to see what the reaction would be, and there was none. Honey stands right at 16 hands.
Honey will make someone an excellent horse, but we believe she is for a more experienced handler and rider.

Mia Hermosa
Mia foaled March 20, 2002 and is a Paint Filly. She is truly a sweet little girl. Mia is very special and has a lifetime to give someone the pleasure of her companionship if they understand her disability. Mia has a "Parrot Mouth". This means that the upper portion of her mouth does not meet her lower jaw. She has absolutely no difficulty in eating. She is very healthy and willing. Mia can never be bred, as this is a genetic defect, which will be passed down to her babies. The parrot mouth was traced back to the stallion. Mia can be trained to a Hackamore or a Side Pull. She is ready to be started. She may never be a very tall horse, but she will be very stocky. She has displayed the intelligence and willingness to learn. |

Buddy
Buddy is an 11 year old QH that was on his way to the sale. His previous owner no longer wanted him because he did not fit into the program and was going to ship him to auction. An outside individual was truly instrumental in preventing his being shipped off to the sales yard and we are forever grateful for this Buddy has since been adopted by a wonderful individual and who is also a FAN of BARBARO. His new mom has really made a difference in his life. |

JC
On October the 8th, 2006, Miracle Horse Rescue purchased six horses from an auction in Oregon. This was made possible by a group of wonderful individuals who call themselves the FOB's, which stands for the Fans of Barbaro. The FOBs provided a list of six particular horses they were interested in rescuing, they also provided not only the funds for the purchase of these horses but the funds to care for them as well. The following are the horses that were purchased on their behalf and they are responsible for giving these horses a chance of a good life.
Jc is a yearling QH colt. |
