Everyday in life we make decisions..some harder than others. Well, that is what happened in the case of Bonnie's family. Bonnie, being 30+ years old from what everyone figures has always had companions in her life. Her two companions had been sent to Oklahoma to be trained. During all of this, her family noticed a difference in Bonnie, her habits and attitude. They realized that Bonnie had become depressed and was refusing to eat, thus visiably dropping weight due to her companions departure. Bonnie's family tried everything humanly possible to pick Bonnie's spirits up but nothing seemed to work. She missed her friends.
Miracle Horse Rescue received the call explaining the situation. We met with Bonnie's family and they visited our facility. They wanted to think about it for awhile as they did not want to give up as of yet, hoping that maybe just maybe Bonnie would turn around. On the 5th of July we received the call, they had made their decision in the best interest of Bonnie, she was coming to Miracle Horse Rescue. Upon her arrival she was very interested in all of our residents and couldn't wait to get back to the barn and check things out. Bonnie is doing very well and enjoys all her new friends surrounding her.
It is responsible unselfish decisions such as this that has given Bonnie the opportunity to continue on with an excellent quality of life such as the one she had with her family.
Update
Today...December 31st, 2001 marks the end of 38 years of life for Bonnie. This sweet old girl touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Bonnie became the dream of so many children to have that very first horse..and there she was. She taught each one of them to be kind and gentle and even inspired some to continue on with their love of horses. Bonnie was patient, who loved her tummy rubbed daily and occassionally was even a bit grouchy. We always said here at Miracle "She could be anything she wanted, she earned it."
A good quality of life for the Miracle horses is what we strive for here daily. Bonnie suffered a massive seizure that caused extensive and permanent damage to her system. Our veterinarian was contacted immediately and a thorough exam was conducted but it was not looking good for the home team. The decision was made to not allow Bonnie to suffer, as she gave too much in her 38 years of life for this ever to happen to her. She deserved more than that.
Bonnie will be remembered by all whose lives she touched and inspired.
