On June 18, 2007 a 20 year old gelding was removed from his owner. He was living in a junkyard. He was starved, still wearing his winter coat, feet undone. He had been given no supplements and no vaccinations. The owner had been buying one bale of hay every 2 weeks for two horses. The rescue came too late for his stablemate, who was found dead of starvation.
He was a skinny red roan with bad teeth (missing front teeth, possibly knocked out) , needed dental work. He does not need a special diet.
His former "caretaker" called him "horse." We've decided to call him Fred in honor of the king of junkyards, Fred Sanford!
This is a video of Fred after one week and two days at MHR. Here's another video of Fred and his equine dentist.
Fred is rideable.

If you think you're the right match for Fred, please read the Adoption Information page, and then contact MHR.
