Halfmoon

Half Moon

Gwen and Eddie Woods moved to Pahrump with a mutual dream in mind. They wanted to have a small ranch where they could have horses and any other little barn yard animals they could imagine having. They began scouring the valley for just the right animals to fit their needs and to give them a caring home.

Gwen and Eddie's first purchase was Half Moon, a young Mustang gelding. His personality was what caught their eye as he was very animated and had a zest for everything he did. He brought many hours of pleasure to Gwen and Eddie. But as we all know, one horse is just not enough. So the adventure begins once again for another horse. But it had to be just the right horse, because Eddie and their children were getting this one for Gwen as a birthday gift. They came across a ranch that had a sign up that said "Horses For Sale". As they pull in Gwen, spots this young horse standing there looking forelorn, she had basically made up her mind that he was the one she had to have. They asked what horses were available and much to Gwen's surprise the one she wanted was.

Enter... Target. Eddie purchased him for Gwen. She was now the proud owner of a 6 month old paint colt. Target was very unique and he was not quite trusting of humans. Gwen spent many hours with Target earning his trust. It is amazing what time and patience will accomplish. One evening Eddie had gone out to feed and he noticed after he had placed Target's food in his feeder he would not touch it. With concern he went to Gwen and told her Target won't eat, what do you think is wrong? Gwen smiled at Eddie and said "He's waiting for his kiss", you see Gwen gave Target a kiss when she fed him so that was what he expected from everyone. Gwen and Eddie's enthusiam for horses rubbed off onto one of Gwen's friends and once again the search was on for just the right horse.

They went back to the same ranch and that is where Bako was found. She is a 27 year old Morgan mare who is very gentle. Bako stayed with Gwen and Eddie and life was wonderful for all.

As we go through life we never expect tragedy to strike. In February 2001, Eddie was killed in an automobile accident. Thus Gwen's life destroyed having lost the one person she deeply loved and shared dreams with. Gwen did her very best to keep those dreams alive. Though we all know sometimes this is difficult for just one person to carry upon their shoulders. Miracle Horse Rescue received an email from Gwen explaining her situtation and that she was seeking help. We went and picked up all three horses on July 6th. They have settled in and seem to have adjusted to their new surroundings. Our hats off to Gwen for being a responsible horse owner and knowing she had to make a decision that was difficult for her as these horses represented a part of her life with Eddie.

Miracle Horse Rescue, Inc. dedicates this story to the memory of Eddie Woods, who had a zest for life just as his horse Half Moon. So when you look in the dark night sky and see a half moon, think of Eddie Woods and the dreams he had.
