Lady

Lady

On September 9, 2001 upon our return from picking Rosie and Giddy up much to our surprise stood this very poor looking mare in our turn out. We could not believe our eyes. There was no note, nothing to let us know who she had belonged to and we didn't have a name for her.

As we all stood, still in shock watching this poor girl, she came up to fence and nickered at us. She had the kindest eyes and not only was it obvious that she was craving food but also that she wanted attention. Slipping through the gate not sure what she was going to do, we walked up to her. She stood there watching us, allowing strange hands to touch and examine her. We decided at that moment we would call her "Lady" as her personality denoted that of a perfect lady. Now the big question was who had she belonged to? With some investigation we managed to locate the owner, I contacted him and he told me in no uncertain terms " I can't keep weight on her and I don't want her so you can have her". I explained to him that he could not just drop her off that he needed to meet with us and the Nevada State Brand Inspector. He agreed, and now Lady has joined the Miracle Horse group.

Upon careful examination of Lady, we found that her teeth had been ground down to little nubs from her cribbing. She was having difficulty eating. We have since her arrival placed her on an alfalfa mash, and vitamins to bring her back up to her ideal weight. She is approximately 250 to 300 lbs under. It is going to take time and alot of care. She is a very sweet mare. She is approximately 18 years old and with more extensive research we found out that she is a wonderful riding horse. The only thing Lady or Lady Bug as she has been dubbed doesn't care for is the cribbing basket we have placed on her. It is removed at feeding time, but replaced afterwards, hopefully this will help in her rehabilitation. We believe that eventually Lady Bug will make a very special person a very special horse.
