Serendipty is an 11 year old Quarter Horse mare who is crippled for life due to neglect. She had been in foal and no one was with her during the birth. She lost the foal and with this came a massive infection leading to founder. Don't let Serendipty's photo fool you though, she does move around quite well and enjoys visiting the other horses in the barn. We think she enjoys stirring up a ruckus because it's almost like she is telling them, I'm out and you're in.
Update
Serendipty passed on to greener pastures in her sleep on October 31st, 2003. Serendipty was a fighter, no person can take that from her. She did her very best despite the crippled body she was destined to be imprisioned in at the tender age of 11 years old.
Serendipty taught many people what NOT to do when owning a horse and she also made alot of us ponder as to our purpose in life and what more we can do to help the abused and neglected. When people walked through the facility they were amazed at her determination and spirit as well as the playfulness that she would display occassionally. Most people were very shocked at her appearance as she was crippled due to neglect. They would ask why and just how do you respond to a question such as that. We still wonder why people do this to these beautiful creatures let alone any living being.
I know that all of our other horses who passed before were awaiting Serendipty across the river in greener pastures.
I would like to share the picture that I had of Serendipty when I found her at 3:45 pm. In my minds eye I saw Serendipty standing looking back at me with a light cloudy mist floating around her legs. The wind was blowing softly causing her mane and tail to flutter behind her. In the background were all the special horses that we have had here at Miracle. They were all calling out to her to join their special herd. She looked back at me as if to say her final farewell. With a loud whinney she turned and ran toward the rest, tossing her head, kicking her back legs up in the air, no longer feeling the pain.
Serendipty is in a far better place, she will never again endure the abuse and neglect that she was doomed to live due to a human being.
